Basic stitches: U.S. crochet terms
Chain (ch):
Start with a loop on your hook. Yarn over the hook and pull through the loop.
Double crochet (dc):
Yarn over your hook. Insert hook in stitch, yarn over the hook and pull through the stitch. (Three loops on the hook.) Yarn over and pull through two loops. Yarn over and pull through remaining two loops.
Half double crochet (hdc):
Yarn over your hook. Insert hook in stitch, yarn over the hook and pull through the stitch. (Three loops on hook.) Yarn over and pull through all three loops.
Single crochet (sc):
Insert your hook in stitch, yarn over and pull through the stitch. (Two loops on hook.) Yarn over and pull through both loops.
Slip stitch (sl st):
Insert your hook in stitch, yarn over and pull through both the stitch and the
loop on the hook.
Treble crochet (tr):
Yarn over your hook twice. Insert hook into stitch, yarn over the hook and pull through the stitch. (Four loops on the hook.) Yarn over and pull through two loops. (Three loops on hook.) Yarn over and pull through two loops. (Two loops on hook.) Yarn over and pull through remaining two loops.
