Scrap Hat #1

I made two hats using some of the leftover yarn that was sprawled on a bed in my previous post.

For this hat, I used a color scheme of purple, orange and fuchsia.

The yarns included eyelash, mohair, wool-blends and upcycled lambswool.

Each round is a different stripe -- all in dc, except for the final two rounds of sc.

I like this hat the best.  The other hat is more restrained -- grays, blues and a pop of green -- and I want to sew on lime buttons as a finishing touch.

Photo coming soon . . . .

Design Element . . . or Mistake?

A crochet buddy making my Bitsy Bobbles Beanie pointed out the distinct lines of holes created by the increases on the crown.

The crown shaping surprised him: the holes weren't obvious in pattern photos.

Stacking the single-crochet increases on top of each other was a design choice that I made, but I know it may not be everyone's cup of tea. (Besides the whole hole issue, you wind up with a hexagon instead of a perfect circle, for instance.)

Then my friend said something that's music to a designer's ears: "Next time I make this hat, I'll stagger the increases."

"Next time" is the key phrase here.  Someone likes the pattern enough to make it again!  Perhaps with a tweak or two. . . .
